WAR HORSE
STARRING: Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Peter Mullan, David Thewlis, Robert Emms, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Toby Kebbell, Niels Arestrup, Celine Buckens and David Kross
DIRECTOR: Steven Spielberg
GENRE: Drama
SYNOPSIS: When a boy’s horse is sold to the cavalry during WWI, he enlists in the war effort hoping to find him.
RATING: PG-13
RUNNING TIME: 146 Mins
THE GOOD: This film wants to be a combination of LASSIE COME HOME (1943) and NATIONAL VELVET (1944)… aka a “classic.”
THE BAD: Unfortunately, it was directed by Steven Spielberg, who has taken all of the grit and substance out of the story and left the viewer with a pretty, but empty shell.
Send this “loser” straight to the glue factory where it belongs and spend your money on something else.
THE UGLY: Did Spielberg forget he was Jewish? His kind portrait of the Nazi’s would suggest so.
MY SCORE: **
(2 OUT OF 5 STARS)
