THE BOTTOM LINE: HAYWIRE

HAYWIRE

STARRING:  Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, Michael Angarano, Michael Fassbender and Michael Douglas

DIRECTOR:  Steven Soderbergh

GENRE:  Action

SYNOPSIS:  A female covert operative seeks vengeance on the men who betrayed her.

RATING:  R

RUNNING TIME:  93 Mins

THE GOOD:  Muay Thai Champion Gina Carano gives audiences all the bad-ass, martial arts action they would want to see… unfortunately, she is undercut by a poorly written script that is all too familiar and packs no punch.

And if the story isn’t worth telling, then why bother? Having a female lead isn’t enough of a reason to see this film, let alone make it.

THE BAD:  A tumble weed rolling around in the background is allowed to upstage one key scene.  Any other director besides Steven Soderbergh would have realized this…

Unfortunately, poor direction seems to be Steven Soderbergh’s forte. This was supposed to be his final film before retiring…  Unfortunately for us… it’s not.

THE UGLY:  You will be thinking of Madonna’s “Human Nature” video as cornrow braids “magically” appear on Gina Carano’s head for her last two fight sequences…

MY SCORE:  **

(2 OUT OF 5 STARS)
