PINA 3D
STARRING: Pina Bausch, Regina Advento and Malou Airaudo
DIRECTOR: Wim Wenders
GENRE: Documentary
SYNOPSIS: A tribute to German Pina Bausch, a 1970’s Modern Dance performer and choreographer whose “dance theatre” performance pieces are internationally recognized and revered.
RATING: PG
RUNNING TIME: 106 Mins
THE GOOD: If you have “happy feet” or enjoy the art of dance… this exuberant 3D celebration of Modern Dance / Tanztheater (“dance theatre”) is for you!
If you are not a fan, I advise you to stay away. Pushing over chairs and rolling around in dirt will only seem bizarre to you.
THE BAD: Unfortunately, this film tells you nothing about Pina Bausch or her life. You only see the work she co-created with her dancers. Blame Director Wim Wenders for giving us a one dimensional portrait.
THE UGLY: Pina Bausch died two days before filming began and five days after being diagnosed with cancer. For the great talent that she was… she wasn’t smart enough to stop smoking… or visit a doctor on a regular basis.
MY SCORE: ***
(3 OUT OF 5 STARS)
