[LISTEN] FLASHBACK FRIDAYS - 2/24/12

FLASHBACK FRIDAYS - 2/24/12

This week's Flashback Friday Mix returned to the original compilation of songs from the 80s and 90s. It's funny how you'd think some of these popular songs might have been used in previous FF mixes. But when I cross reference all of the FF lists, I'm always shocked that I haven't featured them before. Expect to hear a lot of fun old skool jamz with a mix of some 80s new wave and 90s alternative music. Enjoy!

[WATCH] MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS FT. PARIS HILTON - DRUNK TEXT

MANUFACTURED SUPERSTARS FT. PARIS HILTON - DRUNK TEXT

So last month we posted a story about Paris Hlton returning to music and today we have a wonderful treat for you all. Here is the music video from Paris Hilton's greatest "creation" called "Drunk Text" with music by Manufactured Superstars. That's right kids, this music video is a 3:47 PSA masterpiece about drunk texting. If they could make all PSAs this cool...I'm sure a lot of kids will listen. But as for the song, I'm not sure if she's for or against it but one thing I do know...she's talking the ENTIRE time much like what Baz Luhrmann did in his music video for "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)." It's this generation's version of spoken word prose. One of my favorite lines from the song is "It's a hot mess of misspelled obscenities, body parts, and run-on questions." Lyrical genius. Although, I have to say that the beat in the background is pretty catchy. It sounds like something you would hear at the W Hotel bar on a Saturday night. Yes, that was a compliment. Ok, I'll shut up now so you can hear Paris talk. Enjoy!

[INTRODUCING] THIRSTY THURSDAYS WITH LOVER LOVER

[INTRODUCING] THIRSTY THURSDAYS WITH LOVER LOVER

When I first heard "Embers" I thought it sounded like an updated Fleetwood Mac song. If you know anything about my musical taste is that I have a soft spot for Fleetwood Mac. Then after reading their bio on Facebook, lo and behold, that's exactly how Lover Lover described their sound.

"If Beach House met the Eurythmics and Fleetwood Mac on a late summer's road trip, it might sound like this, all polaroid-faded and sunset-red with the wide-eyed innocence of a John Hughes’s film"

Lover Lover is an indie pop band comprised of Eleanor Bodenham and Martin Craftis two long-time musical friends from London. I stumbled upon "Embers" while searching for songs for the weekly Hump Day Mix. It's such a great song that makes you think of lazy summer days flashing back to what I think the 70s would be like. Check out their cool music video for this song! Also go to their Soundcloud page (link below) and listen to "Freebirds." It's another great track that you will LOVE...TRUST.

[LISTEN] HUMP DAY MIX - 2/22/12

HUMP DAY MIX - 2/22/12

If you've ever wondered how I put together these Hump Day Mixes week after week, then you should know that I'm wondering that myself. It's definitely a labor of love! Luckily these emerging artists/bands are utilizing the internet so that they can get some exposure to their music. Now it's just up to us to find them and be their little cheerleading team. This week's Hump Day Mix started out a little rough as I was not finding the type of music that I deemed fitting for HDM. But as fate would have it, things started turning and I was able to find music that warrants a place on our site. I've round up some great indie/electro/dance/pop songs for you that make up this 20-track compilation. Keep a close ear for these bands - Carousel, Tourist, Lover Lover, Eleven:Eleven and Instamatic - as you will be hearing more from them soon!
