MONDAY MUSIC EARWORM WITH JESSIE AND THE TOY BOYS
Happy President's Day everyone! I know that some of you may have it off and some of you don't. But in any case, I wanted to share with you a song that's been in constant rotation ever since the music video premiered last week - "Runaway" by Jessie and the Toy Boys. If you're wondering why that name sounds familiar it's because their song "Lets Get Naughty" has been featured on our Hump Day Mix back in November. Jessie (Malakouti) is quite an accomplished artist. She writes and makes the music herself. Her songs have been used on The Hills and on the promos for The CW. While she was in Europe, she was the opening act for The Saturdays' UK "Work Tour." In 2010 she announced that she had formed a new band called Jessie and The Toy Boys. Then last year Jessie and the Toy Boys was the opening act along with Nicki Minaj and Nervo on Britney Spears' "Femme Fatale Tour"! Their EP Show Me Your Tan Lines is out now however this song isn't on it. It serves as an unreleased track and you can grab it here. Here is what she has to say about making this music video.
"I was overjoyed to learn that Proposition 8 was recently over turned in my home state of California. It's a step in the right direction, however for a country that teaches it's children to place their right hand over their hearts and pledge 'Liberty and justice for all' we still have a long way to go towards actually making that a reality. When I wrote 'Runaway' with DJ Skeet Skeet, we wrote it from the perspective of our 13 year old selves, who felt pressure from our parents and society to be something that we were not. The song is ultimately about breaking free and following your heart. I wanted to make a music video that told a similar story in relation to gay marriage. I was honored to have the beautiful and brave Mollie Thomas star in my video, and I hope that together we are able to bring about more awareness to an issue that is near and dear to both of our hearts and spread a message of equality. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone deserves love. "
