I recently dropped by TUTTI FRUTTI for an afternoon frozen yogurt. I’d walked past the shop multiple times, but this was my first time stopping in.
On this particular afternoon I had my sister and her family in tow, so "ice cream" sounded like a good idea after a long day of taking in the sights. We walked right up to the dispensers and started making our cups. They had a ton of flavors and toppings.
My creation was done first. Tutti Frutti flavored yogurt with blackberries and mini M&Ms on top. I grabbed some napkins and sat down at a table while the fam finished up with their toppings. And THAT'S WHEN I SAW IT...
A GIANT SIGN: “Soy Bean Frozen Yogurt”!
OMG! What the hell have I done?! I had NO idea this was some soy-based trickery when I walked in. I'm not ANTI soy, but I wouldn't exactly seek it out for dessert. There was NO WAY the kids would eat this. And to be honest, there was a big part of me that didn’t think I’d like it either. But I was already there with my family and our cold cops of soy.... so, we had to at least try it, right? I scooped a spoonfull and took a taste... and it was... ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY DELICIOUS!
The kids didn’t know the difference and my Sister and Brother-in-law were impressed too. It was good! Plus, this stuff was actually pretty good for us too. -minus the candy on top :)
What a surprise. I researched a little more about this magical place. Tutti Frutti yogurt comes in a ton of flavors, is non-fat, made with US-grown soybeans, no artificial sweeteners and is gluten free. Check out all the healthy stuff here.
The lesson: Sometimes we seek out new food experiences, and sometimes fate drags us by our tongue right into one.
